The Ladies' Fellowship Group comprises women of varying ages (currently from 30s to 60s) who meet mainly during evenings (for work reasons, or otherwise). Whether a mother of infant, primary, teenage, or adult children, a grandmother, or a loving aunt - all women of any age are welcome. The Group meets at various times for a number of activities, ranging from monthly Sunday morning tea, monthly cleaning of the Church, weekly Bible study, Parish BBQs and the Church fete, to the popular dinners at local Gordon restaurants. You may participate in one or more than one of the activities. What binds us together is that we seek actively to serve our Parish and the community, while enjoying fellowship with one another.
WEGs is a very active group with a diverse range of activities. Many of the members are particularly gifted in producing craftwork. This work always sells well, whether at St John's fetes, WEGs street stalls in Gordon, or after church on Sundays.
The group conducts an annual Card Day and an annual ABM Luncheon with guest speaker. WEGs financially supports a child in Africa, parish projects and several missions. WEGs meets monthly on the second Monday at 10.00am, followed by craft.
Prayer is fundamental to the Christian life and to the life of a growing fruitful parish. Jesus based his life and ministry on time in prayer. St Paul encouraged the Thessalonian Church to pray without ceasing. At present, groups of parishioners meet on Fridays at 9.30am and on Tuesdays at 12.30pm. The style of groups will differ, but all offer participants the opportunity to grow in their ability to converse with God through prayer and to enjoy a time of fellowship and friendship.
One of the Bible Study groups at St John's is the Tuesday Evening group for women, which meets in the crypt from 7.15pm. The Bible is the source of our knowledge of God. Studying the Word of God strengthens our relationship with Him and we learn how to love Him with heart, mind and soul. As we read and study the Bible, we are led to an understanding of His plan and will for our lives. The current Bible study is on the topic of Worship - what is really at the heart of worship. Previous study topics for the Tuesday Evening group have included The Sermon on the Mount, Christian Disciplines, Forgiveness, Fruits of the Spirit, Decisions, Prayer, Christian Community and Meeting God.
