MusicChoirChoirs are such an important part of worship and of life. For ever human beings have sung, so it is logical for us to offer this talent back to God in worship. At St John's we place great emphasis on our Choirs and would love you to join us. 8am Singers The 8am Singers is a new group formed in late 2008. This unison choir sings at the 8am BCP Sung Eucharist each Sunday and rehearses at 7.30am with no additional mid-week rehearsals. This is a non-auditioned group of volunteers, so everyone can join. In addition to singing the Merbecke Mass setting and leading the hymns, they sing a Communion Hymn. New members are welcome and should just turn up at 7.30am on a Sunday morning. Other enquiries are welcome to the Director of Music. The Parish Choir This is an SATB four-part choir that sings at the Sunday 9.30am Choral Eucharist. They meet just before that to warm up, but otherwise rehearse on Thursday nights at 7pm in the Church. They sing hymns, a Mass setting, as well as motets, psalms, a Gospel Alleluia, sequences and so on. They also occasionally sing Choral Evensong and combine with other choirs for large events, such as the concert at St John's in Octobe 2008. New members are always welcome and should contact the Director of Music. The Cathedral Singers The Cathedral Singers is an independent Choir that is in residence at St John's from 2009. They will rehearse here and sing at occasional services while maintaining their impressive schedule of singing in parishers all around Sydney, as well as at St Andrew's Cathedral. They have also recorded and the CD "The Cathedral Singers" is available at St John's for $20. They tour and have been to places such as Brisbane, Canberra, Goulburn, Wangaratta, New Zealand and England, where they sang in Westminster Abnbey, Salisbury Cathedral, Wells Cathedral, Bath Abbey and many other famous places.
