Special Interest Groups

Catering Committee

This committee is responsible for coordinating the catering for various parish functions. Many hands make light work, so the committee always welcomes additional volunteers to help prepare and/or provide food, serve food, serve drinks, set up for events, pack away after events, decorate for special occasions, help with funeral catering, or serve morning teas after Sunday services.

Cemetery Working Group

St John's historic cemetery grounds have been restored and are maintained in immaculate condition by this group of men and women who have a regular working bee from 8.30am on the first Saturday of each month.

Church Cleaners, brass polishers

This dedicated group of men and women lovingly perform these important traditional duties, making a much appreciated contribution to maintaining the church's beautiful presentation.

Flower guild

The floral arrangements in the church Sunday by Sunday and on special occasions draw many compliments and are testament to the skill and time our arrangers devote to this task.

Parishioners and friends of St John's are invited to remember special anniversaries, such as the birth, marriage, or death of a loved one, by making a donation for flowers to decorate the church one Sunday. To make arrangements for a floral memorial (either acknowledged or anonymous), please call the Parish Secretary.

Gardening groups

The splendid results of this hardworking group's efforts are on display for all to see in the extensive gardens surrounding the church and the columbarium wall.

Ku-ring-gai inter church committee

This very active group, of which St John's is a member church, has five established events each year. Congregations of the member churches meet with their Christian neighbours on these occasions, which feature interesting speakers and thought-provoking talks. The Committee's Ideals are:

*To promote friendship and understanding between Christians   of diverse traditions;

*To learn from each other;

*To worship together;

*To work for forgiveness, peace and justice;

*To put material and spiritual values in their proper perspective;

*To show that we are Christians by our love for God and our neighbours.

Op Shop

St John's Op Shop has conducted regular sales for many years and is widely known in the local community and beyond for offering an excellent choice and range of good quality goods at very reasonable prices. The number and selection of titles in the books section delights all bibliophiles!

Strong support by donations of pre-loved books, clothing and general goods comes from parishioners and the wider community. "The Friday Group", a hardworking and commercially astute group of men and women sort, prepare and price goods in readiness for sale, and staff the shop on sale days. Sale times are from 9.30am to 12.30pm on the last Friday and the second Saturday of each month - see scheduled dates in News and Coming Events. Proceeds support the Parish and Missions.

Servers' Guild

Members of the Servers' Guild, most of whom are licensed as Lay Assistants, assist the celebrant in the sanctuary at services of Holy Communion.

Sidesmen

Sidesmen's duties at services of worship include greeting worshippers as they arrive, handing out service booklets, hymn books and pew bulletins, and taking up the offertory. Sidesmen are rostered for one Sunday morning service each month and for festivals such as Easter and Christmas.
